Pumamarca is a trail that leads to the archaeological center of the same name, although it is also used by mountain bikers for its compilation of different types of terrain, you will find stages of small steps, vertical, fast sections and some positive slopes. The beauty of this trail is the unique landscapes that you will be able to observe while descending, in addition you will cross Andean terraces that are still used by the villagers. Although it is not a very long circuit, it is worth the effort, because it combines culture, history and adrenaline.
You travel 8 km through Inca terraces to reach the town of Ollantaytambo, a plus to visit this circuit.
For this trail you need to have an intermediate level, there are sections that demand some technique because the terrain is a little loose and with a considerable slope. There are short rocky sections, but if you don't feel you can do it, you can always walk.
Depending on the season the weather varies, normally in the months of December to May the rains are frequent, we recommend you to go as early as possible and avoid the afternoon. The rest of the year is dry, but it is also colder, take a light coat that you can keep when you feel warmer.
It is singletrack enduro type, with few technical downhill sections.
To get to the circuit you need to travel from Cusco to the town of Ollantaytambo, then drive through the valley of Patacancha for 45 minutes more. You can take the Mama Simona hostel as a reference for the detour. As you go up you will find a sign indicating the direction of the archaeological center Pumamarca, follow the instructions and you will not get lost.
