Description

Early in the morning, we will head from your hotel to the town of Ollantaytambo, located 75 km from the city of Cusco, in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Ollantaytambo is known for its famous archaeological complex, a strategic place in Inca times as a military, religious and agricultural center, which still maintains the Inca urban planning. Upon arrival, we will take a detour to climb for 8km along the Patacancha River. On the way we will observe the imposing Inca terraces of Muaqa Pukhacia and finally arrive at the archaeological site of Pumamarca. This incredible Inca complex is located in a strategic point from where you can appreciate the beautiful valleys of Patacancha and Yuracmayo. In addition, we will find a great variety of architectural structures, such as platforms, roads, canals, qolpas, among others. According to some chroniclers, these staggered structures were of military character, and apparently the space was used for battles between the Spanish and the Incas during this time. From here, our biking adventure continues along an Inca trail that descends from the complex to the town of Ollantaytambo. During the descent, we will cross small well-preserved Inca canals, rural settlers' houses and we will be able to appreciate a breathtaking view of the Patacancha valley. During the ride, we will stop to rest and appreciate the view, as well as observe the next sections that we will cross by bike.
